Procurement leaders, supplier development professionals, and business support organizations gathered to discuss the future of supplier readiness and development.
On June 16, 2026, Aventi hosted its first Supplier Insights Meeting, bringing together procurement professionals, supplier development leaders, and ecosystem partners to examine the current state of supplier readiness and identify opportunities to strengthen participation in government and corporate contracting.
The meeting provided attendees with a data-informed look at the challenges businesses continue to face in pursuing contracts while encouraging collaboration among organizations that support supplier growth. Using data from Aventi's 2025 Supplier Impact Report, attendees explored trends in supplier readiness, procurement practices, market access, innovation, and the resources needed to build a stronger supplier ecosystem.

Challenges Experienced by Businesses
One of the central themes of the meeting was the continued need for foundational business development support. While many businesses express interest in pursuing contracts, success often depends on strengthening internal business operations before responding to solicitations. Proposal development, pricing strategies, operational systems, financial readiness, and compliance continue to be areas where many businesses require additional support. Attendees agreed that helping businesses build these capabilities is essential to increasing long-term contracting success.
The discussion also highlighted the ongoing impact of limited access to capital.
Businesses pursuing larger contracts frequently require financing to support staffing, equipment, inventory, or operational expansion before payment is received. Attendees noted that expanding access to contract financing solutions remains an important component of supplier development.
Also examined were the increasingly complex procurement processes that create barriers for emerging suppliers. From navigating multiple procurement systems and certification requirements to understanding proposal expectations and compliance standards, businesses often face a steep learning curve when entering the contracting marketplace.
The discussion reinforced the importance of buyer education, supplier training, and technical assistance to help businesses successfully navigate procurement.
Supplier innovation emerged as another key topic of discussion. As buyers and procurement agencies seek new approaches to solving operational challenges, businesses that embrace innovation, improve efficiency, and develop specialized capabilities are often better positioned to compete for future opportunities. Innovation extends beyond technology and includes improving business processes, service delivery, and operational excellence.
What the Supplier Ecosystem Needs
Based on our observations, four priorities consistently emerge:
Expanded Access to Capital - Businesses need financing solutions designed specifically for contract growth.
Operational Development - Suppliers benefit from support that strengthens internal systems, compliance, proposal readiness, and business infrastructure.
Strategic Relationships - Connections between suppliers, buyers, lenders, and resource providers accelerate business growth and increase contracting success.
Industry-Specific Peer Learning - Businesses often learn best from companies that have successfully navigated similar procurement challenges within their own industries.
Looking Ahead
The Supplier Insights Meeting concluded with a call for continued collaboration among organizations committed to expanding supplier participation and strengthening local economies through contracting opportunities. The message was clear that not any one organization can do this work along. This year's Supplier Insights Meeting
served as a foundation for future initiatives, including buyer-focused programming, supplier engagement activities, and continued research into the evolving needs of the supplier ecosystem.
